Verbal

1st deadline

report of SRI seminar

Recently, I had an opportunity to attend in a seminar about British Social Responsibility Investment (I previously introduced in this article ) held by SIF-Japan.

In this seminar, the CEO of Japanese branch of a British asset manegement company explained their social investment style.

Most of what he said was within my imagination, but he provide me two new perspectives.

One is a action about shareholder (so called "engagement").

Unlike ordinary asset management companies, the company takes care of the behaviors as a stockowner especially about social matters.

The firm aggresively makes dialogs with listed companies and votes on some issues to make the companies to which the firm invests more sustainable and ethical.

Another feature is the position of securitiy analysts.

Generally speaking, the role of buyside analysts is to provide useful information to fund managers.

So, analysts never have any dicision rights to manage funds.

However, the situation in the firm is different from ordinary asset management firms.

The head of analyst team about social responsibility has veto on portfolio.

If the head judge that some securities should not be invested, the fund manager can not obtain them.

Of course, positive screening is couducted in early phase, but the company pay much attention to avoid investing reprehensible cooperations.

I was very delighted to learn them because these points were very what I had wanted to know.

I deem that Japanese SRI will be more effective in that such investment will change the business of invested cooperations if Japanese asset management firms carry out both aggresssive engagement and strict screen for social responsibility.

After the seminar, I had drunked with the lecturer, the commentators and members of SIF-Japan.
Then I talked with Mr.Kanai, one of opinion leaders in SRI field.

He is my hero since I read a book about SRI written by him (at the bottom of this article). So, I wanted to have a converstation with him.

I told him my dreams, career perspective and passion to social finance.

I agree with my opinions and advise me for some points.

One of his advices was that I should make connections with others (including him) more aggressively without any comprehension.

He said "If you have passion for something, you should not worry about no matter what you will face.". He also suggested me some favor. I deeply appreciated him.

Next day, I sent a e-mail to the lecturer and Mr.Kanai. and I accepted replyies from both of them.

The former proposed a lunch with me and now I plan it.

The latter gave me kind message.

In sums, I learned not only about SRI but also about how to live in this seminar.

I will never forget what I feel at that time.

meeting with a counselor

On 28. January, I held a meeting with a counselor because he was reputated among my acquaintances on Twitter.

Due to the meeting, I went to Tsukiji near from Ginza.

As you know, Tsukiji is familiar with fish market and delicious marine food.
Because the meeting was scheduled at 19:00 and I afford to roam around there, I had marine cuisin in a sushi restaurant.

I ordered a sushi in a bowl (below). The price was 1,800 yen.

It was very tasty but too little to satisfy.

At 19:00, I visited the office to meet the counselor.

During the meeting, I was taught many tips including career planning, scheduling application of MBA course, clue for enough score of IELTS and GMAT etc.

And he cheered up me that I have excellent possibility to be accepted by Manchester Business School.

I satisfied the counselor and want to enroll his lectures if possible.

But I have suffered from lack of money, I can not use the qualified service.

Alternatively, I attempt to advertise the service.

I recommend all of MBA applicants to meet him as early as possible to confirm the application strategy.

British penpal

Recently, I have tried to impove my Engilish skills and sought the way to enhance them.

This English blog forms part of the endeavor.

In addition, I start to communicate with international persons.

I found a website to provide informations about penpals from ends of the world.

Through the website, I sent two messages to the candidates of penpals.

Lately, I received a message from a person whom I sent a message.

I was happy to accept it and return a message soon.

I am not sure that our relationship will retain for a long time, however, I regard it important to keep it.

If international people check this blog, I ask international readers to send me a massage and become my penpals.

condolence to blind tennis originator

Now, we can find wide range of sports for disordered people such as blind football, marathon, basketball etc.

Most sports for handicapped peoples are called "adapted sports" because they are modified for such persons.

Top adapted sports player play in tha Paralympic games and they show excellent performance.

Then, I think that human’s potential ability is infinite. And I respect the efforts of the handicapped players.

We can understand the difficulty of the sports easily when we walk or run for few meters under blind condition or make some activities without a fanction of a part of our bodies.

16,Janualy,2011, an accident happened at Mejiro station, Tokyo, and Mr. Miyoshi Takei died in the incident.

He falled into train track because he was blind and could not acknowledge the border between the platform and the track. Then there was no fence on the platform.

Mr. Takei was well-known as a originator of blind tennis and had preveiled it all over the world.

He aimed that the Paralympic committee would adopt blind tennis as an event of the Paralympic Games.

It is a regretable fact that a person who pursue improvement of handicapped persons’ lifes died because of not disease but the accident which came from lack of barrier-free system.

But I wonder if persons around there could help him with little alarming to him.

Hearing this accident and achievement by Mr. Takei, I feel that I should pay more attention to disordered people and ask all of us (of course including me) to become more generous for handicapped persons.

When we will afford to consider such person, our society will be more strong and filled with kindness and happiness.

Again, I thank Mr.Takei for his efforts.

start to prepare for GMAT

To apply for MBA program, we (international applicants) need to auquire good scores of two examinations.

One is a score of TOEFL/IELTS (or other test like them), another is GMAT.

The former is necessary for only non-native English user, but all appilicants including English native must take GMAT (some schools do not require applicants to take GMAT).

Until now, I have prepared for IELTS, but I should also study for GMAT because of my schedule.

GMAT is so difficult that I presume to take for a few months (at most over 1 year !? ) to acquire enough GMAT score to apply for TOP schools.

Most top schools require us to hand in over 680 and the needed scores have been rising recently because the number of applicants have increased because of this recession.

When I started to prepare for applying MBA, I attempted to study GMAT by myself. However, most applicants and alumni recommend us to use professional services. Therefore, I accepted the advices and decided to enter a prep school for GMAT.

Now, I have studied Sntence Corrction (SC grammar) and Reading Comrehension exclusively. I will also study other sections soon.

If possible, I want to take the first GMAT in June or July and finish it by September or at worst October.

Anyway, I will learn many English issues through the lessons and texts of the prep schools and never regret my way to MBA.
